Help! I hate my hair

  • Hi,

I'm an older woman that has always longed for beautiful straight hair. I watch Brad all the time I just love him and I was wondering if he has any tips for older women so we can still look beautiful in our golden years. I'm a Natural redhead but over the years it's darkened and a little bit salt and pepper.   My hair is natural curly, in my younger years it was wavy now it's ringlets. I have totally ruined the outer layers of my hair from straightening it. Recently I've tried to wear my hair curly because I have long hair and it's a disaster. I put all kinds of product in it and it just looks horrible. The outer layers are fried they're dry they won't curl so frizzy just look some mess. I spent tons of money on all kinds of product to try to bring my hair back to its natural state and forget it it won't happen. About a year ago I started losing my hair for some reason stress maybe thyroid I don't know and probably the last four inches of my hair is very thin all the way across so I'm considering cutting it but what I'd really like I would like a shag like I had back in the seventies. I have yet to find a hairdresser that can deal with my type of hair. I tell them you can't cut it too short because it's curly, inatural curly cuz I go into a salon with straight hair and I have to explain to my hair is very curly and I end up looking like a clown because they cut it too short and the last shag I tried to get maybe 5 years ago it just had all these straight square chunks of hair looked horrible The stylist obviously didn't know how to do a shag. It took me almost 6 years to grow it out. I have bangs and then just long straight hair when I do straighten it I'm a little bit too old for that style maybe I don't know. I love having long hair but it just doesn't look good.

I just would like to give some kind of style to my hair and sometimes if I want to wear it curly I'd like to do that too but I can't because the outer layers are so ruined from being fried. What can I do your hair is your crown and Glory and mine is far from Glory. I don't want to do a shortcut because I don't like short hair on me been there done that looks awful. Can you help me?

  • Hi Beautiful 💛

Thank you for sharing all of this. And I need you to hear me: you are not too old for beautiful hair. Not even a little bit.

What you’re describing sounds like a mix of heat damage on the outer layers (so they’re dry, frizzy, and won’t curl) plus thinning at the ends, which makes the length look stringy. The good news is you don’t need a “short cut” — you need a strategic cut.

    Here’s what I’d recommend:

-Trim the last thin inches. Keeping length is totally possible, but removing the wispy ends will instantly make your hair look fuller and healthier.
-Go for a long, soft curly shag. A shag can be amazing, but it needs to be a curl-friendly shag (soft layers, not chunky straight-across pieces). The “blocky chunks” happen when someone cuts curly hair like it’s straight. Look for a curl specialist, and if you can, go in wearing your hair natural so they can see your true pattern.

For products to help bring your wave/curl pattern back to life, I’d recommend leaning into Wavetech. Here are a few different options:

-Wavetech Extra Hold Foam to help your curls clump, reduce frizz, and hold shape
-Wavetech Hydrating Cream or Conditioning Mist for moisture and slip so the outer layer looks smoother
-Wavetech Mask weekly to help restore softness and improve definition over time

And when you do want to straighten, always protect your hair first—our Super Gloss Ultra Frizz Defense Spray is amazing for heat protection and helping your style stay smoother and frizz-free longer.

You’ve got this, and with a few smart tweaks, your hair is going to start feeling like you again—just even more fabulous. 💛✨
