Short messy

  • Hello

I have a half long/half short hair style, my hair isn't just wavy but a bit more curly but not enough to say I have a stereotypical curly hair style and it falls to waves after 3 days or so. The longer side is at the bottom of my shoulder blades currently. At this point I do all the coloring at cutting myself other than the shorter side side.

The issue is the shorter side, I'm disabled and have someone close shave that side but it has been awhile due to pain (plus having hair that I have always been told grows quickly) so it is around 3in now and kind of wild. Unfortunately I have no experience styling short hair and wetting it down just isn't doing it right now, I tried looking for tutorials but they all pop up for hair ear lobe length or longer even when I put the length of hair in the search.

How can I tame this in a more stylish but punky way? My husband says my aesthetic is pinup punk, I love getting in gorgeous vintage style clothing but looking like my punky self with my gradient bright colored hair, piercings and tattoos.

  • Hi Beautiful 💜 Your aesthetic sounds amazing - pinup punk with bright color and vintage vibes? Obsessed. 😍

For the short side of your hair, if it’s grown out to around 3 inches and is getting a little wild, here are a few easy, punky ways to style it:

    🔧 Style Tips:

    • Try a soft hold gel, mousse, or styling cream to define texture without making it stiff. You can scrunch or twist small sections to bring out the natural wave or shape.
    • Go spiky or piecey for a punk edge—use a bit of wax or pomade to separate and shape. Just a little goes a long way!
    • Create contrast with volume: Push it forward, off to the side, or try a little quiff up top for some edge.

    💡 Bonus Tip:

    • If wetting it down doesn’t help much, try misting with water + leave-in conditioner or a light curl activator first. That can soften the hair without weighing it down.

Your style sounds bold and beautiful - can’t wait to hear how it turns out! ✨💇‍♀️
