Can I go from 5G golden brown to 7A ash blonde without killing my hair?

  • Did I make an account just to ask this specific question? Yes, I did.

I recently went from a deep red-violet shade to the 5G golden brown. My original goal was to get closer to my natural color, a dark ash blonde/light brown.

I used color eraser by Matrix (which is basically bleach) and did some damage thinking it wouldnt be as bad as bleach (it is). The first color I tried ended up looking like a warm light brown, almost strawberry blonde but not quite. Anyways, it was an odd shade on me and I hated it.

So I used 5G to cover and repair it, I was going to try 7A but I wasn't sure if my hair was light enough (it probably was).

I liked 5G, it's a beautiful color, but darker than I expected. I damaged my hair lightening it just to get it back to a dark shade again, so that was unfortunate. Now that it's faded a bit, it has a warm copperish tone and it looks like how my red hair would fade out after a few months. Which isn't bad, but I really wanted to get back to a cool toned brown at least.

Long story short - if I fade out the 5G as much as possible, can I try covering what's left with 7A? Or is bleach or color removal inevitable? If I do have to use bleach, is it possible without killing my hair? Or should I just not?

I dyed it about a month ago and I wash my hair 3-4 times a week. Presently at a mid toned, warm copper brown with no attempts to remove color yet.

Thoughts and opinions are welcome :)
