Color FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions for Vivid and Natural Hair Colors

Application & Usage

HOW DO I ACHIEVE THE BEST RESULTS?

Start with Clean, Dry Hair: Wash your hair with shampoo and allow hair to dry.

Use Gloves for Bold Shades: If applying a deeper or richer tone, gloves can help prevent temporary staining.

Apply Generously: Use enough product to thoroughly saturate your hair from root to tip for a consistent, high-impact shine.

Comb Through for Even Distribution: Use a wide-tooth comb or fingers to ensure every strand is coated.

Let It Process for 20 Minutes: For maximum vibrancy and shine, leave the gloss on for the full 20 minutes.

Rinse with Cool Water: Cool water helps seal the cuticle, locking in shine and extending the longevity of your gloss.

DO I NEED TO BLEACH MY HAIR FIRST?

XMONDO Color is a deposit-only color. While you don't have to bleach your hair, it is recommended for best results.

Please review our swatch guides to see the amount of color that will show up on your natural hair.

To achieve a bright, vibrant color, your hair will need to be blonde or pre-lightened.

HOW MUCH PRODUCT DO I NEED?

XMONDO Color was created to last 2-3 applications depending on hair length, so you shouldn't need more than one jar.

CAN I LEAVE XMONDO COLOR ON FOR LONGER?

XMONDO Color is a conditioning hair treatment that you can leave on for as long as you would like without causing damage to your hair.

If you are going to leave it on for longer than 20 minutes, we recommend using a processing cap to keep the moisture in your hair and avoid the product drying out.

CAN I APPLY XMONDO COLOR TO WET HAIR?

We recommend applying to dry hair for the most vibrant and even results.

CAN I MIX XMONDO COLOR SHADES TOGETHER?

Yes, you can mix different shades to create custom colors. However, we recommend mixing in a separate bowl rather than in the jar.

Results & Longevity

HOW LONG WILL MY COLOR LAST?

XMONDO Color is semi-permanent and fades with washing.

Results will vary between people based on a number of factors, such as starting hair color, hair health, and frequency of washing.

Due to the above factors, we cannot give you a specific time frame for how long your color will last.

Semi-permanent color results typically last 2-4 weeks.

WILL XMONDO COLOR WORK ON MY HAIR (BROWN, GREY, KIDS)?

XMONDO Colors are semi-permanent, deposit-only colors that may only tint your natural hair.

On brown, grey, or children’s hair—which often has a compact cuticle—the results may be more subtle and fade faster, potentially requiring an extra application for longevity.

Reds and Purples tend to have the best results on natural hair.

We always recommend doing a test strand to see the results prior to a full-head application.

For best results on natural hair, we typically recommend processing the color for 30-45 minutes under a processing cap.

Please review our swatch guides on each color's webpage to see the amount of color that will show up on your natural hair.

To achieve maximum vibrancy, your hair will need to be blonde or pre-lightened.

WILL IT COVER MY GREYS?

While it may stain your greys and help them blend in with the rest of your hair, it is not intended to cover them entirely.

For complete grey coverage, a permanent hair color is recommended.

CAN I REAPPLY XMONDO COLOR BEFORE IT FULLY FADES?

Yes! You can refresh your color anytime since it conditions as it deposits pigment.

Maintenance & Care

HOW DO I MAINTAIN MY COLOR?

Adjust Washing Frequency: Washing your hair too often can strip away natural oils and color. Try to extend the time between washes by using dry shampoo to refresh your hair. This helps retain moisture and keeps your color looking fresh.

Keep It Cool: Avoid using hot water when showering. Cold water keeps the hair cuticles closed and prevents the color from running and fading too soon.

Keep Your Color Safe: Opt for color-safe shampoos and conditioners to prevent premature fading.

UV Protection: Shield your hair from the sun's rays by wearing a hat or using UV-protective products. Sun exposure can cause the color to fade faster.

Limit Exposure to Chlorine and Salt Water: Salt water and chlorine can cause quicker fading. To protect your color, rinse your hair with fresh water before and after swimming, or wear a swim cap to minimize exposure. Additionally, applying a leave-in conditioner or protective hair oil before heading to the beach or pool can act as a barrier.

Avoid Heat Overload: Limit the use of hot tools like curlers or straighteners, as excessive heat can cause color to fade quickly. Don't forget to use heat protection!

Refresh As Needed: XMONDO Color is a hair treatment and is safe to use as often as you would like. Feel free to regularly refresh your color to keep it looking its best.

Compatibility & Ingredients

WHAT HAIR TYPES OR TEXTURES IS XMONDO COLOR SUITABLE FOR?

XMONDO Color was designed for all hair types and textures.

WILL XMONDO COLOR DAMAGE MY HAIR?

XMONDO Colors are deposit-only, meaning that they simply coat your strands with pigment and will fade with washing.

Our colors are free of harsh chemicals, ammonia, and peroxide.

They contain bond boosters, proteins, and oils to help care for your hair as you color it.

Essentially, they are a semi-permanent color combined with a conditioning and rejuvenating hair mask.

CAN I USE XMONDO COLOR WITH DEVELOPER OR PEROXIDE?

No, this is a deposit-only color, and it does not require a developer. Adding one will not lighten your hair and may alter the formula.

IS XMONDO COLOR VEGAN AND CRUELTY-FREE?

Yes! XMONDO Color is 100% vegan and cruelty-free.

Cleanup & Safety

WILL XMONDO COLOR STAIN MY SKIN OR BATHROOM SURFACES?

Bold shades may cause temporary staining.

To prevent this, apply a barrier cream (like petroleum jelly) around your hairline and wear gloves.

Wipe any spills immediately with a damp cloth.

If needed, diluted bleach can help remove stains from non-porous surfaces like porcelain or ceramic—just be sure to rinse thoroughly after use.

WILL THE COLOR BLEED?

Semi-permanent dyes, especially bold colors, are prone to bleeding.

This is because they only coat the outside of the hair shaft, making them more susceptible to washing out and bleeding compared to permanent dyes, which penetrate deeper into the hair.

The duration of bleeding varies depending on a variety of factors, such as the intensity of the color, the porosity of your hair, and how often you wash your hair.

Typically, some bleeding can be expected for the first few washes after dyeing your hair. After this, the bleeding should lessen, but some minor bleeding might still occur, especially when using vibrant colors.

To help minimize bleeding or color transfer, we recommend limiting the time your hair is exposed to water and blow-drying your hair after washing, as this can help set the color and prevent excessive transfer.
